Mission BBQ is well-known for its delicious barbecue and dedication to honoring those who serve in the military. One of their significant annual initiatives is offering a free sandwich to veterans on Korean Armistice Day, observed every July 27th. This day commemorates the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953, ending active hostilities in the Korean War.

12th Annual Hike to Remember Press Release
On September 21st, the Peter P Monaco Jr. Detachment 40 will hold their 12th Annual Hike to Remember.
“Hike To Remember - XII on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Veterans and current service members of all branches are invited to join us. All hikers and participants will meet at the Veterans Hall of Glastonbury at 4:30 AM and will step off for a 22-kilometer hike through Glastonbury starting and ending at our building located at 980 Chestnut Hill Rd, South Glastonbury 06073.
2024 Light over Darkness Walk
The Irish American Home is proud to join forces with The Peter P. Monaco Jr. Detachment 40, Marine Corps League in this year’s 2024 Light Over Darkness Walk to raise funds in support of Detachment 40’s ongoing mission to “create hope through action” as they work to raise awareness for suicide prevention programs and promote local mental health resources for our Veterans and their families.
On Saturday, May 11th at 4:15 am, participants will once again gather as a community on our fields in the cover of night to carry candles as we walk to greet the sunrise together at 5:30 am. It is an extremely moving experience, known across Ireland as the most important sunrise of the year*.
Mark Genovese Book Launch - I'm Not Famous: Don't Ever Expect To Be.
Mark Genovese is an ordinary man. Although his readers may find his stories extraordinary, he does not. Mark is a typical American who loves his country, his hometown, his family, and his friends. He is the person sitting next to you in the theater, across from you at a restaurant, or a row behind you at a ballgame.
When his doctors diagnosed his Parkinson's disease, they suggested that if he wrote about his life experiences, the effects of the disease might be delayed. Mark is not sure if that is true, but the chapters in this book have certainly shaped the man he is today.
